Quick-acting adjuvant for ammonia and hydrogen sulphide elimination.

DEOPOL/15 is the trade name of an organic chemical compound conceived and produced to eliminate Ammonia and reduce drastically the Hydrogen Sulphide formation (smell of rotten eggs); in fact these elements are caused by the protein anaerobic degradation and by the reduction of the sulphides contained in the animal excreta.

Of course, the product was initially studied for zootechnical applications in barns containing cattle of various species, such as pigs, rabbits etc, but afterwards it proved also effective in pits receiving landfill leachate, reducing considerably the stinking exhalations generated by the compound anaerobic transformation.

DEOPOL/15 is a powdered product and, in the case of the barns, it is spread uniformly over the slurry surface and its quantity is proportional to the ammonia and hydrogen sulphide quantity to be neutralized.

In the barns equipped with open-type or slatted floorings DEOPOL/15 is inoculated into the underlying slurry and its action prevents the ammonia spreading, keeping its concentration in the air inside the barn within few ppm (parts per million).

The reaction speed of DEOPOL /15 varies and depends on a range of conditions such as:

• protein content of the feed
• pH of the slurry
• temperature of the slurry
• seasoning degree of the slurry
• atmospheric pressure
• % of water

but one thing is certain: this is a chemical process and for this reason there are no chances to have a bad performance.

Ammonia is a protein degradation product and its concentration in the slurry is proportional to the content of proteins and amino acids contained in faeces and urine.

Normally, the richer in protein is the animal diet, the higher is the content of non-assimilated proteins and protein degradation products of faeces and urine. The conversion of proteins and relevant by-products into ammonia is carried out by the bacteria.

So this is the advantage of using at the same time both our product DEOPOL/15 and an equal quantity of BIOMAR ENZYMPLUS Type E/16 to speed up the transformation reaction of proteins into Ammonia and of Ammonia into highly nitrogenous products, characterized therefore by a higher fertilizing power, if such fluid is finally spread over the ground.

The ammonia solubility in water is inversely proportional to the temperature and so the increase in temperature taking place during summer months causes a decrease in ammonia solubility in the slurry. Such phenomenon can be easily changed increasing the dosage of DEOPOL/15 during the whole summer season, but keeping always the dosage of BIOMAR E/16 unchanged.
DEOPOL/15, just like BIOMAR E/16, has a pH stabilizing function, which is taken towards neutrality.

Finally, regarding the improved fertilizing power, it is worth saying first of all that DEOPOL/15 formulation only consists of substances included among the ones, which are essential to the plant development; moreover the active principles of the product don't include any heavy metals or substances at all, which might generate bioaccumulation processes or damage somehow agricultural lands.

Secondarily, just to make an example, we can examine a practical case, as described below:

• Cattle farm with a surface of 1000 m³
• Air volume above slatted flooring amounting to 3000 m³
• Ammonia concentration of 50 mg/m³

The ammonia quantity, treated with the mixture consisting of DEOPOL/15 + BIOMAR E/16, is turned into ammonium salt according to the following formula:
50mg/m³ x 3.000 m³ = 150 grammi di NH₃

DEOPOL/15 is especially useful for pig delivery and weaning rooms. Animals are particularly stressed during the above mentioned phases and in fact the little pigs suffer the separation from the mother, the privation of the mother teat, the transfer to another environment and a new diet.

For this reason it is useful to establish excellent environmental and hygienic conditions. The 20 kg package of DEOPOL/15 acts very well and offers the following advantages:

• Ammonia and hydrogen sulphide elimination
• Less washing operations
• Shorter cleaning times
• Slurry homogenization and relevant reduction

Recommended dosage of 100 gr/m³ on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays of the first two weeks.

As specified at the beginning, the application of DEOPOL/15 might be also recommended in those environments, such as dumps, composting industries etc., where the organic compound transformation generates ammonia and/or hydrogen sulphide.
